One essential system to have in any building is the HVAC system. However, despite the role it plays, it contributes to the climate change problem that the world is battling. Thanks to a desire to save the environment, HVAC systems are working toward becoming more efficient. Engineers are looking for answers in renewable energy and improvement in technology. Let’s look at some of the hottest trends in HVAC technology.
Using Smart Systems Connected to the Internet
One advantage of using devices that are connected to the internet is the ability to switch them on or off from a remote location. The possibility of controlling the system using your phone or your voice will help to cut down on wastage. Further advantages to this include the ability to schedule the use of the system. The system will also send reminders when it is due for maintenance to ensure efficient performance. Smart systems will allow users to monitor their efficiency and even dispatch contractors as soon as they detect a problem.
Automation and Machine Learning
Data is one of the biggest drivers of any industry. It is vital in machine learning and advanced data collection technologies. The systems will help identify areas where energy consumption can be reduced. These will also monitor the energy consumption of each system and predict areas that need changes in the future.
Offering HVAC Technology as a Service
The development of specialized platforms that make it possible to connect the HVAC systems to the internet is crucial. These systems enable users to take action in real-time depending on the feedback from the smart systems. These technologies can send photos, submit orders, and provide detailed reports to enhance performance and reduce cost.
Temperature Regulation Through Zoning
Temperature regulation through zoning involves setting specific temperatures for different parts of a building. Zoning means that an area in a building that does not need a lot of temperature regulation will not receive as much regulation. Using ductwork dumpers, users will have thermostats in different rooms that make sure a room gets what it requires.
A room with fewer occupants will not need as much heating or cooling compared to one that has more occupants. This will enable the system to work at its optimum while meeting the personal preference of the occupants. Slight adjustments in temperatures can lead to energy savings.
Motion-Activated Air-Conditioning
Here, the HVAC system turns on or off depending on whether it detects motion in a particular room. Unoccupied rooms do not need temperature regulation, and this will translate to huge energy saving.
Thermally Driven Air-Conditioning
Thermally driven systems use fluid evaporation to eliminate heat from a particular environment. Also, these can use solar energy to run the system, alongside natural gas. Places receiving a lot of sunlight will surely benefit from the use of solar power.
3D Printed Systems
Using 3D printing technology, users can create Cool Brick. This porous brick can allow air to pass through it freely, and like a sponge, it can also soak up water. As the water from the porous brick evaporates, it cools the air in a room. The 3D prints usually come out more durable, strong, and are more affordable compared to other parts made from ordinary materials. Therefore, an HVAC system made using 3D technology would arguably last a long time and require little maintenance.
Building Designs With HVAC in Mind
This new trend requires people to have sustainable HVAC systems incorporated in the building’s design. Green construction forces architects to have ventilation systems that reduce energy consumption and use natural airflow when designing the building. This might mean constructing a building using materials that contribute to having a constant temperature. Such buildings can also use alternative sources of power to reduce their overall energy consumption.
Geothermal HVAC Systems
Here, engineers use the earth’s consistent temperature six feet and more below the surface to regulate the temperature of a room. This system involves burying pipes underground and creating an earth loop. Since, regardless of the season, underground temperatures remain constant, water running through the pipes helps to heat or cool the air. The use of fans and pumps to send air to different parts of the building is essential.
