Architects seeking a foundation for incorporating demountable equipment into design projects to improve the flexibility of live event staging and enhance the patron experience need look no further than Staging Concepts. A leading provider of staging solutions and equipment for venues of all types, the Minneapolis-based company offers a virtual, on-demand AIA-registered educational course, SC2021OD, that examines the use of demountable equipment with a focus on application, patron safety, ADA building code requirements, social distancing and structural and design considerations in public spaces.
“This program aims to provide architects with key learnings and considerations regarding the function and value of demountable equipment in the design process, and to ensure safety while maintaining design intent and aesthetics,” said Cindy Albrecht, director of sales and marketing for Staging Concepts, a Trex Company.
The training course provides an overview of the standard components of demountable equipment and the building blocks for developing flexible spaces, which include platformssupport structuresstair unitsguardrails, additional equipment accessories and ADA systems. Applicable sections of the International Building Code (IBC), as well as materials, finishes and options – and how they affect a project’s budget – are also discussed.
“Demountable equipment systems are easy to customize for size and structural capacity, but architects should select them based on multiple factors that include use, storage, cost and set-up size,” added Albrecht. “Successful project execution starts early in the process by contacting an experienced supplier to discuss these factors.”
Upon course completion, participants will be able to:

  • Identify applications for demountable platforms and equipment in public spaces,
  • Discuss solutions for patron safety and current trends regarding patron experience and social distancing,
  • Apply 2018 IBC code criteria related to demountable platforms and the design of safe systems,
  • Identify structural design considerations for demountable equipment in specific field applications, and
  • Specify equipment that is appropriate for project goals for safety, budget and venue flexibility.

The Staging Concepts demountable equipment course is registered with The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Systems. All participants will have their credits reported to AIA, and certificates of completion for both AIA members and non-AIA members will be sent upon completion.
