The pandemic spurred changes at full-service eateries that shifted to off-premises formats to stay afloat as their dining rooms closed and then reopened at reduced capacity. A number of popular chains including Outback Steakhouse and The Cheesecake Factory have created fast-casual formats, and others launched curbside pickup and began testing drive-thru lanes to offer contactless options.
