Mall traffic declined during the first nine months of 2020 as the pandemic began, and about 300 malls may close in the next four to five years, according to Coresight Research. More companies are announcing plans to redevelop malls and shopping centers, with 70 malls already converting to mixed-use developments, according to Ellen Dunham-Jones, director of the Urban Design Program at Georgia Tech.
