Do you know how many days an injured construction worker is off the job? 98 days on average, according to new data from Travelers, the country’s largest workers compensation insurer (see press release below and more details here).
For its 2022 Injury Impact Report, the company analyzed more than 1.5 million workers compensation claims over a five-year period to identify workplace injury trends. The study also uncovered that 48% of all construction claims occurred within the first year of employment, representing more than half (52%) of total incurred costs.
More notable findings across all analyzed construction claims include:
·          Most common causes of injuries: Slips and falls (27% of claims), overexertion (25%), being struck by an object (14%), cuts or punctures (7%), and motor vehicle accidents (6%).
·          Most expensive causes of injuries included burns and scalding; slips, trips and falls; struck by objects; and motor vehicle accidents.
·           Most frequent injuries: Strains and sprains (30%), fractures (21%), dislocations (10%), cuts and puncture wounds (8%), and contusions (6%).
·          Most severe resulting injuries were electric shock, multiple traumas, cardiovascular injuries, amputations and head traumas.
