Melia bets on Thai revival with 5-star Chiang Mai hotel

Spanish chain Melia plans to open a five-star hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand, giving a vote of confidence to a nation that’s hosted no international visitors in 18 months and a city that reportedly languishes below 10% lodging occupancy. The company hopes the 260-room Melia Chiang Mai will stimulate local commerce when it opens later this year near multiple attractions in the city’s center. South China Morning Post
