Creating an outdoor kitchen is an exciting DIY project, but you can do it much faster and get a higher quality result if you hire the right services. A lot of people have an idea of what they want but they don’t know how to create that final product, nor do they have the technical skills to bring it to fruition. Rather than guessing your way through the process, here are 7 concrete steps that you can take that will ensure you get the best result.

1.  Brainstorming Ideas

Before you put pen to paper, go through a few different design options to better understand the possibilities. When looking for the best layout for your home, you want to keep in mind things like size, functionality, and even the weather. If you happen to find a design for a region with little to no rain, it may not be the most suitable for you if you live in an area that experiences a lot of rain. Look into different options that people are using so you can get a better idea of what you want in your outdoor kitchen.

2.  Designing and Planning

With the ideas shortlisted, it’s time to look at how those things can be integrated into your home. For instance, if you want a bonfire near the kitchen, do you have enough room for it? Are there plants nearby that could become a safety hazard? Is there a source of water close by in case of an outbreak of fire? Maybe you have shortlisted one of the outdoor kitchen frames you have seen but would like it in a different finish in your application. Get in touch with the experts and find out how the idea can be tweaked to meet your needs. If you are handy with tools, you can custom make some of your own things to be used in the outdoor kitchen such as seats or even the countertop.

3.  Procuring Goods

By now you have a better idea of what the final product is going to look like. It’s time to shortlist what you will need and start looking for those materials. It’s possible that some things might not be available in your region so start looking for alternatives. By preparing beforehand, you will have enough time to buy cheaper appliances and building materials. Instead of buying locally from a retailer, buy it directly from the manufacturer or wholesaler and have it shipped in. This approach is advantageous since if throughout the rest of the project you can’t find something locally, you will have already established a connection with external suppliers who can help you find exactly what you need.

4.  Construction

Construction is a time-consuming task, but when you have a properly thought-out plan it can be completed in just a few days. That’s why good planning is important as it will help you to structure the building process. Without a plan, you will constantly be going back and forth to adjust things and make changes. If you can, get an expert to help you during the construction process for even better results.

5.  Fitting and Setting Up

With the frame and the base ready to go, it is time to install all your appliances. The grill, the stove, the sink, the fridge, and all the other accessories you have should be installed after the construction, so you don’t damage anything. Make sure you double-check all electric, water, and gas connections before sealing them in. Leave the furniture for the last step to avoid getting it dirty.

6.  Testing And Optimizing

Before your kitchen is ready for use it’s a good idea to test-run everything. Run water through the sink and make sure there are no leaks in the water supply or the fitting of the sink. If you have used cement or varnish or anything that takes a couple of days to properly dry, give it some time before you start testing. If you need to use gas cylinders, make sure you are using tested and rated cylinders to ensure safety. Check the little things like the light in the fridge or the thermometer on the grill.

7.  Final Touches

With everything ready and working, it’s time to add in the furniture and anything else you want. Things like cooking utensils, filling up the fridge, stockpiling some coal or wood, and other small things can be finalized at this stage. This is when you are just finishing the project and making sure you have everything you need to get started with cooking in your outdoor kitchen.

You can always add some personalized things to add functionality and comfort to your space. It would be a good idea to get a portable speaker or maybe even a TV to enjoy the game while you have a barbecue. You can add some decorations or maybe create a little play area for the kids. Creating an outdoor kitchen is all about creating a space that you and the family will enjoy, so be sure to personalize it according to your liking.
