Fil Doux Textiles, a Brooklyn-based textile company producing mill-direct, luxurious upholstery and Otratex—the first-ever degradable vinyl alternative—is excited to debut a new upholstery fabric, Alto. Destined to be a classic, Alto’s beautiful, free-flowing pattern features one of the softest hands that Fil Doux Textiles has created to date.

Derived from the Spanish word alto, meaning ‘high,’ the collection takes hospitality upholstery to a whole new level with its casual elegance and soft touch. Available in 12 colorways from bright Boysenberry to deep, smoky Quartz, Alto offers a modern spin on the famed 1970s European latch hook rug, boasting an organic, free-forming pattern. When examined closely, Alto resembles hand-woven knots and can easily add to an elevated aesthetic with its luxurious look.

“The Alto Collection carries on my family’s legacy of providing residential-inspired, soft-to-the-touch fabrics for the hospitality market,” says Leo Novik, CEO and Founder of Fil Doux Textiles. “I wanted to create a fabric that evoked feelings of comfort and luxury, which is exactly what hotel guests will be looking for as travel takes on a whole new meaning in both business and leisure.”

Infused with a unique character, pattern, and a resemblance to the colors found throughout nature, Alto’s color palette includes beautiful, warm spring neutrals, earthy tones, and grounded greens and blues, representing the changing of the seasons. The colors include Boysenberry, Cocoa, Indigo, Innocence, Mink, Moss, Onyx, Parchment, Quartz, Sapphire, Steel, and Twilight. Suitable for applications, which range from a guest room’s accent chair to a headboard found in the presidential suite’s bedroom, the collection’s abstract and structural elements call attention to encapsulate the feeling of home.

“We set out to create a timeless, luxurious, and affordable fabric option for the hospitality industry,”  says Robert Pullen, Vice President of Hospitality & Cruise at Fil Doux Textiles. “Fil Doux actually means soft yarn and this collection is by far our softest hand yet. From the initial first look, I knew this fabric would easily become a fan-favorite for both cruise and hotel designers.”

Alto is available with the brand’s proprietary protectants—Pro-Tech and Copper Shield by Pro-Tech—for those looking for additional protection to the already reliable fabric. Pro-Tech is Fil Doux Textiles’ trusted ink and denim shield and Copper Shield by Pro-Tech is a copper-infused defender that holds capabilities of repelling bacteria, viruses, and mold.

Like all Fil Doux Textiles’ products, Alto is produced using sustainable practices—80% of the company’s energy comes from solar and wind power, dye waters for fabrics are reused, and leftover fabrics are repurposed for packaging. In the spirit of environmental sustainability, Fil Doux Textiles has partnered with 501(c) One Tree Planted with a pledge to donate 1,000 trees to Brazilian Rainforests for every 1,000 yards of Otratex™ purchased.
