Casinos breathe new life into declining shopping centers

Resorts World Catskills is planning to turn an empty department store at the Newburgh Mall in Camillus, New York, into a gaming venue with video lottery terminals. As shopping centers continue to decline, several casino operators have seized the opportunity to fill the vacant spaces, with three such facilities opening in Pennsylvania, another in the works in Virginia and potentially one in Illinois.
