When you get a dog, you will probably be all excited and ready to welcome this new member to your family, and you will, undeniably, be happy about all the love that the pup will be showering you with. Of course, you will return that love, but that’s far from being the only thing you’ll need to think about when raising a dog. After all, you still need to raise them the right way and teach them certain things and tricks, and, most importantly, you need to keep them safe and healthy. Click this to get a better idea about how to keep them healthy.
Among other things, you will have to think about your dog’s nutrition when trying to keep them healthy. Their diet is definitely one of the most significant factors to consider, since there is absolutely no way that your canines will be healthy unless you are providing them with a nutritious diet, filled with ingredients that their body actually needs. Of course, exercise plays a huge part in their health as well, and although the amount of exercise they will need depends from one breed to another, the truth is that every canine will require a certain level of physical activity in order to stay healthy.
That, however, is not what we are here to talk about today. As I have already mentioned, nutrition plays a huge role in your dog’s health, and today we are sticking to that topic. You probably know already that canines are usually given certain special food, made specifically for them. Does that, however, mean that you should never, ever, give them certain ingredients that you, as the owner, are actually consuming? In other words, does it mean that your dog should never consume any human foods whatsoever?
Well, to be perfectly honest with you, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, it is completely okay for your dogs to consume certain human foods from time to time. The only thing is, you’ll need to be careful about which ingredients you are actually giving them, since not everything you eat is safe for your little four-legged friends. I am guessing that you knew that already and that you wouldn’t even dream of giving certain ingredients, such as chocolate for example, to your puppy.
You can read more about some of those harmful and toxic ingredients here: https://pets.webmd.com/dogs/ss/slideshow-foods-your-dog-should-never-eat
While it is completely obvious that certain ingredients shouldn’t be given to animals under any circumstances, things can become much less obvious and much more confusing when some other ingredients are in question. For example, if I asked you whether your dog can consume cinnamon, chances are that you would get rather confused, since you’ve probably never thought about it. Well, it’s time to start thinking about it right now and, of course, it’s time to get to the bottom of this and answer the question.

Can They Eat It?
If you are looking for the short answer on whether your dog can actually eat cinnamon, let me share it right away. Basically, the short answer is yes. Your canine can most definitely consume this ingredient, meaning that you can add it to its food or give them cinnamon treats, as it is completely safe for your pups. The only thing is, though, you’ll have to think carefully about which type you are giving to them.
As you might already have known, there are two most common types of cinnamon on the market. Those are called Cassia and Ceylon. While both of these types can easily be found on the market, it is worth noting that the Cassia cinnamon contains higher amounts of coumarin, a substance that can be toxic not only to dogs, but also to humans if given in large amounts. Ceylon, on the other hand, contains pretty low amounts of this substance, which makes it the safe option for your canines. So, I suggest you go for the Ceylon.
How?
If you are now wondering about the best methods you can use to give your dog some cinnamon, i.e. if you are trying to decide how the pup should consume it, then let me try and help you out here. The truth is that you shouldn’t be overthinking this at all. Basically, you can sprinkle the cinnamon on your canine’s food and let them consume the right amount that way. If you are, however, worried that you might give them too much of the product this way, then there’s another option.
To put it simply, you can find and buy dog treats containing cinnamon. This way, you’ll be perfectly sure that you are giving the right dosage, which will put your mind at ease. Just make sure that you are buying these treats from reputable manufacturers, since you don’t want to give your pets certain poor quality products. Do some research before making the purchase.
How Much?
The only thing that’s left is for you to decide how much cinnamon your dog should actually consume. This is something that you will need to think about both if you opt for adding this substance to its food on your own, and if you opt for buying those treats that I have mentioned. The dosage depends on your dog’s weight primarily, but the best thing to do is start slowly and possibly increase the dosage if necessary later on. And, of course, don’t forget to read the label of the products that you are buying.
