Atlanta looks to turn struggling malls into job centers

Faced with a number of struggling shopping centers, economic developers in Atlanta are looking to transform some into job centers that includes opportunities for health care providers, housing, grocery stores and restaurants. KC Conway with the commercial real estate forecasting firm Red Shoe Economics said the challenges the city’s malls face stem from the growth of Amazon and the housing crisis, and the biggest mistake developers can make in revitalizing the properties is to think they can bring retail back.
