Rosendin – The electrical contracting industry’s largest employee owned firm that started in 1919 in San Jose, California with revenues upwards of $2 billion. Rosendin has 6,000 employees across 15 offices nationwide. The company recently changed its name from Rosendin Electric to reflect its growth in services such as design-build engineering, BIM, prefabrication, renewable energy, network services and more.

80% of construction firms in the U.S. recently reported difficulty recruiting skilled workers. It not only requires valuable resources to find and recruit top talent, it also impacts project work by delaying timelines and increasing costs. That’s why companies like Rosendin are turning to advanced technology to attract the next generation of workers.
Rosendin is a leading electrical contracting firm which expects to find some of its future workforce at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Student Competition in Sparks, Nevada this week. The 32nd annual competition attracts the best and brightest college teams from western states for an intense 3-day competition. This year 1,190 students from 53-universities will be challenged to find solutions for complex construction projects and present them to a panel of judges.
Rosendin’s Electrical Challenge is new this year and promises to be unlike anything students have experienced before. That’s because the people who created the complex electrical problem and three of the panel judges know exactly what the students are experiencing.
• Brandon Stephens, Rosendin Division Manager, participated in the ASC competition in 2003 and 2004 as a member of the team sent by Boise State University. He began working for Rosendin after graduation.
• Rob Clark, Rosendin Project Manager, competed with California State University – Sacramento, where his team won 2nd place in 2013 and 1st place in 2014. He accepted a job offer from Rosendin a few months later in Sacramento.
• Mark Stone, Rosendin Project Manager, was a team leader for California State University – Chico that took 1st place in 2013. He started working for Rosendin that summer in San Francisco.
These guys know how important the competition is for students. It is a huge time commitment on top of their regular studies, so only the most talented and motivated students even sign up. For those at the top of their class, it is an opportunity to meet hiring managers face to face and prove they have the skills to reshape the construction industry using new technology and new ideas.
Following the awards presentation on Saturday, there is a career fair with 110 companies who are recruiting for new employees and interns. Rosendin will have a booth to continue conversations with students interested in a career or a summer internship at the corporate headquarters in San Jose, California.
Rosendin is celebrating its 100th year in business this year and credits its longevity to embracing new processes and technology such as building information modeling (BIM) and augmented reality for training, planning, installation and quality control.
