The popcorn still is being popped and moviegoers still are enjoying the big-screen at the AMC Theaters in Levittown, N.Y. – all while Schimenti Construction renovates the 10-theater complex. Started in October, this AMC project, the first for Schimenti, will be completed in January 2015 – 95 calendar days from start to finish. The approximately 80,000-square-foot project includes the renovation of all 10 theaters, concessions, box office, cash room and four restrooms. Divided into three main phases, the work began with the construction of a temporary box office and concession stand, which Schimenti completed in two evenings. Phase 1 encompasses the renovations of theaters 1–6, two of the restrooms and 60 percent of the main corridor. Being done concurrently, Phase 1A involves renovating the concession area, box office and free-style beverage center. Once those phases are completed, Schimenti will move on to Phase 2, the renovation of theaters 7-10, the remaining restrooms and the balance of the main corridor. The project architect is B/R/R Architecture of Merriam, Kan.
