Forever 21 may move to smaller store footprint

Fast-fashion retailer Forever 21 is exploring options for scaling down the size of some of its larger stores, and it’s in talks with Wells Fargo bankers about securing a $150 million loan, according to The Wall Street Journal. The retailer has forecast a 10% rise in sales this year, but it’s facing challenges as teens’ tastes and shopping habits change.

FED CON: Boston’s transit system needs $7.3B in upgrades

The Boston area is home to the country’s fifth-largest public transit system, but that system needs $7.3 billion to maintain and upgrade its aging infrastructure, according to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority‘s fiscal board. The realization comes at a time when the MBTA is looking into the 4.7-mile extension of Green Line, which is over budget by as much as $1 billion. Read The Boston Globe story here

Primark prepares for US debut

UK-based Primark will open its first U.S. store in Boston next month, betting its European fast-fashion style will play best in the Northeast. The retailer, which operates 287 stores in Europe, booked a 12% sales jump in its most recent quarter, reflecting the growing popularity of its $10 jeans and $3.50 T-shirts. Art hotels continue their rise across the U.S.

The hot new trend in the hotel industry is to give guests a visual experience they’ll always remember. New art hotels are cropping up across the United States. The Art in Denver has an in-house curator, and the Baccarat Hotel in New York commissions new works for display. Seven permanent installations are available for viewing at the 21c Museum Hotel in Durham, N.C. Read the CNN story here

Best Western adds 5 new Vib hotels

Best Western International has announced plans to expand its Vib boutique hotel brand with five additional hotels expected to open in 2016. The boutique properties will be located across the United States, including Los Angeles, Little Rock, Ark., and a second Miami property. Read the TravelPulse story here
