Best Western unveils 2 new brands

Best Western International executives revealed plans for two new brands at the company’s annual convention  in Toronto. The first brand, “Vib,” will fall under the boutique lifestyle segment and will offer amenities such as virtual concierge services, automated check-in and social public spaces to target millennials. Saks expands in NYC with help from tax credits, grants

Saks Fifth Avenue will open an 85,000-square-foot department store in Lower Manhattan’s new Brookfield Place office and retail complex. Parent Hudson’s Bay Company also will consolidate its U.S. headquarters into 400,000 square feet of office space at Brookfield Place, and open the city’s first Off 5th outlet nearby at One Liberty Plaza. The retailer will use $12 million in tax credits and grants for the project, which is part of a larger downtown revitalization Read The New York Times story here

Influx of millennials could help address labor shortage

The influx of millennials into the workplace should help address labor shortages in the construction industry. Meanwhile, the exit of baby boomers from the workforce is clearing a path to leadership positions for Generation-Xers. Fox Restaurant Concepts will continue to grow

Sam Fox began building his restaurant empire with the opening of Wildflower 16 years ago. Tucson, Ariz.-based Fox Restaurant Concepts operates 46 restaurants under 15 different banners, with plans to open 18 more in the next three years. Read The Arizona Republic story here

Manhattan’s “215 Chrystie” to launch in 2016

A luxury hotel-and-residences complex is opening in Manhattan in 2016, offering what its hotelier calls “a revolutionary new genre of urban living.” The 215 Chrystie, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, will feature panoramic views of New York, 28 stories and a 370-room hotel.
