Cheesecake Factory to foray into fast casual, expand RockSugar brand

The Cheesecake Factory is expanding beyond its flagship brand by developing a fast-casual concept, and the company will open a second unit of its RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen next year. McDonald’s to open Chicago restaurant as part of new HQ

McDonald’s will install a ground-floor restaurant as part of its new headquarters in Chicago’s West Loop. The building is anticipated to open in spring of 2018 and house 2,000 employees, Hamburger University and test kitchens. Read the Chicago Sun-Times story here

Expansion set for Marriott group uniting 8 luxury brands

dsc_0942-300x199Marriott International is folding its eight high-end brands into a new Luxury Brands Group in carrying through on its merger with Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. Thirty hotels will be opened under the umbrella group next year, and 150 are planned after that. Read the Frequent Business Traveler story here

Luxury Swiss watch retailer to open shop in NYC

Watches of Switzerland, which sells luxury brands, including Patek Philippe and Rolex, will make its U.S. debut at the new Hudson Yards retail project in New York City in 2018. The center will include international brands such as Zara and H&M, and the city’s first Neiman Marcus store. Read the Bloomberg story here

Jewel-Osco to roll out upscale concept in Chicago

Jewel-Osco will open a high-end grocery on Clark and Division streets in downtown Chicago next year, on the site of an older store the retailer closed in 2015. The 45,000-square-foot flagship will include a full-service bar and in-store fresh food dining options. Read the Chicago Tribune story here
