Brookfield terminates Revel acquisition

Brookfield Asset Management pulled out of a deal to buy the closed Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J., for $110 million, according to the company, reportedly because of failure to reach an agreement on debt restructuring. Meanwhile, Florida developer Glenn Straub, who initially bid on Revel, said he was still interested in the property. Read The Press of Atlantic City story here

STR, Tourism Economics project record hotel demand at year’s end

Hotel demand growth will reach a four-year high of 4.5 percent and occupancy will rise 3.7 percent to 64.4 percent, its highest level since 1996, at the end of 2014, according to a new forecast by STR and Tourism Economics. The strong performance is expected to continue into 2015, with 6.2 percent, 5 percent and 1.1 percent growth expected for revenue per available room, average daily rate and occupancy, respectively. Report: Big restaurant chains speed unit growth

The 500 largest restaurant chains in the United States are on track to grow 2.3 percent over last year based on the number of units, according to Technomic. Full-service eateries will see the biggest unit growth in Asian concepts, seafood eateries and steakhouses, the report said, while Asian and noodle concepts will lead growth in the limited-service sector. Forever 21 could start thinking smaller

Forever 21‘s strategy of growing into spaces three times as big as their older stores has led to difficulty filling all the space productively, sources said. Founder and CEO Don Chang will take a more measured approach to site selection moving forward, a Forever 21 spokeswoman said. Read The Wall Street Journal story here
